Can I Convert Coaxial Cable into Ethernet?

If you want to extend the reach of your wired home network, you may want to consider converting your coaxial cable wiring into an Ethernet connection. This can be done with MoCA adapters, which allow you to create a MoCA Network.

A MoCA network is a wired network that uses your coax wiring in your home and works as an extension of your existing Ethernet network to provide a fast and very reliable connection, with speeds up to 1 Gbps.

You can also connect your WiFi router to this network to increase your WiFi bandwidth to all of your wireless devices, throughout your home.

Converting your coax into Ethernet is very easy.  Here’s what you need to know first….

What is a MoCA adapter?

A MoCA adapter is a device that converts your coaxial cable to an Ethernet network. This allows you to use your existing coax wiring to create a very fast and reliable connection for devices such as routers, computers, gaming consoles, and streaming devices. A MoCA network provides speeds up to 1 Gbps to your end devices, which is much faster than WiFi.

How does a MoCA Adapter work?

A MoCA adapter works by translating the signals that are sent over your coaxial cable into Ethernet signals. This allows your devices to communicate with each other over a fast and reliable connection.

What are the benefits of using a MoCA adapter?

There are many benefits to using a MoCA adapter, including increased speeds and reliability. A MoCA network is also much easier to set up than a WiFi network.

Additionally, a MoCA network provides better coverage than WiFi and is less likely to experience interference from other devices.

Some benefits of using a MoCA adapter include:

  • Faster speeds: A MoCA network can provide speeds up to 1 Gbps, which is much faster than most WiFi networks.
  • Greater backhaul: MoCA technology is designed to provide you with greater backhaul, no additional wires, simple setup, always fast and reliable network solution.
  • Lower latency: MoCA lowers latency (no lag) and improves your connection speeds throughout your entire home.
  • More reliable connection: A MoCA connection is more reliable than a WiFi connection, and is less likely to be interrupted by other devices.
  • Better coverage: A MoCA network provides better coverage than a WiFi network, making it more ideal for large homes or businesses.
  • Easy to set up: A MoCA network is much easier to set up than a WiFi network, and does not require any special equipment.

How do I set up a MoCA adapter?

To set up a MoCA Adapter, connect the adapter to your coaxial cable outlet. Then plug in an Ethernet device into the MoCA Adapter.

How to set up a MoCA network

First, you will need to purchase at least TWO MoCA adapters (also called Coax-to-Ethernet Adapters) to create a MoCA network.

If you have a coaxial cable running through your home, you can use it to create a high-speed Ethernet network by using a MoCA adapter. This device will convert the coaxial signal into an Ethernet signal, allowing you to connect your devices with an Ethernet cable. A MoCA network provides an extremely fast and more reliable connection than WiFi, with speeds up to 1 Gbps to your end devices.

To set up a MoCA network, you will need:

  • At least two MoCA adapters (you can have up to 16 MoCA adapters on a MoCA network)
  • Ethernet cables
  • Coaxial cables
  • Coax outlets (where ever you want your MoCA Network connection)

Follow these steps to set up your MoCA network:

  1. Connect one MoCA adapter to your coax outlet with a coaxial cable.
  2. Connect an Ethernet cable from the MoCA adapter to your router, computer, gaming console, or other Ethernet devices.
  3. Connect the second MoCA adapter to a coax outlet with a coaxial cable. When you connect two MoCA adapters to your coaxial wiring, they automatically form a network.

Once everything is plugged in and connected, your MoCA network is ready to use!   MoCA networks are capable of speeds up to 2.5 Gbps throughput within the MoCA network and up to 1 Gbps speeds to your connected Ethernet devices.

If you have a wireless router, you can connect it to a MoCA adapter as well to significantly increase your WiFi bandwidth and performance.  With MoCA adapters, you can enjoy BOTH wireless Internet and get a wired network experience with reliable, solid Internet connection.
