Extending your Ethernet network can really help boost your Internet connection. Whether you call it an Ethernet over coax network or MoCA network, it’s the same thing. You need three things to extend your network:
- Coaxial cable wiring in your home to create the Ethernet-like connection and transmit data
- Ethernet over coax adapters (MoCA adapters)
- Coax wiring or outlets where you want your Internet connection

How to Get Coaxial Cables to Extend your Ethernet Network
Coaxial cables are what is used for Cable TV services. If you live in a home that has ever had cable TV services, then you have coaxial cabling in your walls and you can create a MoCA network. Make sure to test them for a valid Internet signal to make your set up faster.
How MoCA Adapters Extend your Ethernet Network
You need MoCA adapters to create the Ethernet-like connection. Since a MoCA network is a point-to-point wired connection, the devices create a direct connection. This direct plug-in connection is what makes it reliable and fast, delivering speeds up to 2.5 Gbps. To create and extend your MoCA network you need to get at least two MoCA-enabled endpoints to create the network. The MoCA adapters are easy to set up.
The steps to set up are:
- Buy a pair of MoCA adapters.
