Whether you have a wireless or wired home network, there is a way to have solid Internet. WiFi has many conveniences. Wired Ethernet has a lot of reliability. But a hybrid network is the best of both worlds. When you have the convenience of WiFi but the reliability of a wired network, spotty Internet disappears. So, how do you get this yourself? Keep reading.
How Wires Can Make WiFi Better
By nature, WiFi is unreliable because it is vulnerable to interferences. When you pair your WiFi network with a wired backbone, like Ethernet, your Internet connection becomes stronger, and your overall network performance is better.
You can achieve this in your own home by creating an Ethernet over Coax connection. (No new wires needed.)
Creating an Ethernet Over Coax Connection with MoCA Adapters
Ethernet over Coax, also called MoCA, uses existing coax TV wiring to transmit Ethernet data. This creates the reliable wired network backbone. To do this, you need MoCA adapters and/or a MoCA enable router.
How these adapters work is by forming a point-to-point network backbone from your home coaxial wiring and coax outlets to your end devices. This creates an extremely strong, reliable, and fast wired Internet connection. The MoCA adapter converts your coax wiring into an Ethernet-like connection, delivering speeds up to 1 Gbps to your end devices. Ethernet over coax/MoCA is also perfect for enhancing your WiFi connection. How? The Ethernet connection is great for bandwidth-heavy devices like PCs and gaming consoles. So, wire those up. That leaves the rest of the network less congested for your other wireless devices to perform better.
Setting up MoCA adapters is simple. Here are the steps:
- Buy a pair of MoCA adapters.
- Connect one adapter to a coax jack and into your router.
- Connect the second adapter into the device you want to use to connect to the Internet. (You will need an Ethernet cable to connect to your device.)
That’s it! It’s literally plug n’ play. Your MoCA network is setup. No extra wires. No holes in walls. Just better Internet in your home.
