MoCA adapters are Internet enhancing devices. They are a wired solution that create a direct Ethernet over coax connection for high-speed Internet. They can also you’re your WiFi better.
MoCA adapters work with any WiFi router as long as there is a port to connect an Ethernet cable. As long as you have an Internet connection, the Internet service provider (ISP) doesn’t matter.
If you have an Xfinity or Spectrum router, you can use MoCA adapters. The setup is easy. The number of MoCA adapters that you need can greatly depend on the size of your home. Generally, you can use two adapters. You can even get away with using only one MoCA adapter if your router has MoCA capabilities built-in and is enabled.
However, if your home is large you may need more than two adapters, even with a MoCA router.
When setting up an Ethernet over coax network (MoCA) with your Xfinity or Spectrum router, there are two ways to go about it:
- Setting up MoCA adapters with an Xfinity or Spectrum MoCA-enabled router:
Step one: Enable MoCA on your Xfinity or Spectrum router. The router will stand in as one adapter.
Step two: Connect the one MoCA adapter to a coax jack in your home and then to your device with an Ethernet cable. - Setting up MoCA adapters without a MoCA router:
Step one: Plug one MoCA adapter into a coax jack and connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable.
Step two: Connect another MoCA device to a different coax jack in your home. If your home is large, you can do this with multiple adapters.
Both of these MoCA adapter set ups work and there isn’t a better or worse choice. It just depends on if your Xfinity or Spectrum router has MoCA built-in or not. Learn more about setting up MoCA in your home.
Another tip is that if your router needs more ports to plug in adapters, you can use an Ethernet switch with MoCA adapters.
