MoCA network adapters and Coax to Ethernet adapters are two different names for the same thing. They are adapter devices that help convert your existing coaxial cables into an Ethernet connection. More commonly, they are referred to as MoCA network adapters.
What is a MoCA Network Adapter
Let’s dive a little bit deeper into what MoCA network adapters are. MoCA network adapters, sometimes shortened to MoCA adapters, are a pair of devices that plug into your wall, your router and your device to create a reliable, fast wired network connection. By doing this, you can free up space on your WiFi network for mobile devices that take up less bandwidth. Also, by wiring up the bandwidth-hungry devices like gaming consoles or PCs you get a reliable connection every time for online gaming, streaming, and working from home better.
Why they are called two different things then?
MoCA adapters work with coax cables that exist in your walls from when you got cable TV services installed way back when. Because MoCA technology converts this coax to an Ethernet connection, the adapters also received the name “Coax to Ethernet adapters.”
How to Set them Up
Creating an Ethernet over coax network is easy with MoCA adapters. It takes a few steps in a few minutes. Here’s what you do:
- Connect one adapter to a coax jack and also into your router.
- Connect the second adapter into the device you want to use to connect to the Internet. You will need an Ethernet cable to connect to your device.
Typically, you will only need 2 adapters. However, there are situations where you might need more, or less.
