What Internet Speed do I Need for Streaming Netflix?

Streaming videos is one of the most frequent activities we do online, but it is also the activity that takes up the most bandwidth. To avoid jittery video and buffering when you are watching Netflix, you need to ensure your bandwidth can support fast internet and streaming speeds.

Most streaming services list their internet requirements online, but Netflix specifically recommends 1.5 Mbps of speed per device for optimal streaming results. According to Leichtman Research, 80% of households have at least one streaming device with the average being 4 devices per connected household.  Quick math shows that the average household would then require at least a 6 Mbps Internet plan.  However, you need to get that Internet connection to every corner of your home, and that might be a challenge.

If you do have a 6 Mbps Internet plan but you are still having problems obtaining smooth video streaming, you can boost your Internet connecting within your home by using a MoCA adapter. A MoCA adapter is a wired WiFi booster that helps you transmit Ethernet over your existing coax wiring. MoCA adapters enable fast, reliable Internet within your home so you can enjoy streaming Netflix without interruptions to every connected device.

An adapter like Hitron’s HT-EM4 MoCA Adapter shifts your current coaxial wiring to a “super-highway” between your router and WiFi devices, meaning your Netflix streaming experience will be free from stutters, freeze frames or pixelated picture.
