Maximizing Your Cable Modem for Faster Speeds

You’re probably reading this because you’ve recently experienced some problems with your cable modem.  Whether you have been renting your cable modem or if you have purchased your own cable modem, up until now, your cable modem has been performing its job, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.  It’s easy to forget just how important your cable modem or cable modem router is to your internet connectivity until there’s a problem.

If your cable modem has been in your home for more than 3 years, it’s likely outdated.  What do you mean outdated?  Already?  It’s true.  Technology changes quickly, and it’s important to ensure that your cable modem is up to date.

The newest standard for cable modems is DOCSIS 3.1.  You should check with your cable provider to see if your connection supports DOCSIS 3.1.  If they do, then you are able to take full advantage of Gigabit speeds with DOCSIS 3.1 technology.  If they aren’t quite there yet with DOCSIS 3.1, you can still upgrade to a DOCSIS 3.1 modem since they are backward compatible with DOCSIS 3.0.  You will still be able to enjoy the speeds currently available from your Service Provider while remaining ready to take advantage of faster Gigabits speeds once your provider offers DOCSIS 3.1.
