Can I use a MoCA Adapter with Xfinity or Spectrum Internet?

Learn > MoCA > Can I use a MoCA Adapter with Xfinity or Spectrum Internet?

MoCA adapters need coax outlets or wiring to work. Because of this, it doesn’t really matter who your Internet service provider (ISP) is. Let us explain.

MoCA adapters use MoCA technology to convert coaxial cable into an Ethernet connection.  It essentially converts the Internet data to be transmitted over coax.  A MoCA network is also called “Ethernet over coax”.  Setting up an Ethernet over coax network is easy, and MoCA adapters enable this transformation. To help you figure out how to use MoCA adapters and how many you will need with your Xfinity or Spectrum Internet subscription, we will cover that below.

Using MoCA adapters

As mentioned earlier, it doesn’t matter if your ISP is a Cable Internet provider or not.  You can harness the high-speed capabilities and reliability of a MoCA network by obtaining MoCA Adapters.  Now, if you happen to have a Cable Internet provider, such as Xfinity and your approved Xfinity router has built-in MoCA capabilities, you technically only need one adapter to make the connection work. MoCA creates a point-to-point network connection.  For every Ethernet-capable device that you wish to connect to your MoCA network, you will require one MoCA Adapter.  For example, if your router is MoCA-capable and you want to connect a gaming system and a computer, you will need a total of two MoCA adapters – one for the gaming system and one for your computer to connect to the coax wiring.

Regardless, the setup is easy.

Setting up MoCA adapters with a MoCA-enabled router:

  1. Enable MoCA on your Xfinity router. The router will stand in as an adapter.
  2. Connect the one MoCA adapter to a coax jack in your home and then to your device with an Ethernet cable.

Setting up MoCA adapters without a MoCA-enabled router:

  1. Plug one MoCA adapter into a coax jack and connect it to your router with an Ethernet cable.
  2. Connect another MoCA device to a different coax jack in your home.

Setting up an Ethernet over Coax Network

In general, you can set up an Ethernet over coax network with any ISP, not just Xfinity or Spectrum. But if you are an Xfinity or Spectrum subscriber you can set up MoCA adapters easily since you likely will already have a MoCA-enable router and you can follow the steps above.
