Minimum System Requirements
- High-speed Cable Broadband Internet Service.
- Computer with a working Ethernet port and an Ethernet cable with RJ45 connectors.
- Web browser access, such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
- Not compatible with Cable-bundled voice services.
Installation Guide
Connecting the CODA56 cable modem to a computer
Please Note: You must connect the cable modem directly to a computer during the installation and activation. After installation and activation, you can connect the cable modem to a router.

STEP 1
Find your Cable Internet Account Number and login information (your email address or username, password) and have it ready for Step 3.
If you are replacing a modem that is currently connected in your home, unplug the old modem and remove it from its current location. Place this new cable modem into the same coax outlet as the previous modem.
STEP 2
Connect the coaxial cable to the cable modem.
- Locate the Coax Outlet in your home.
- Use the coaxial cable provided in the package to connect the coax cable port on the rear panel of the cable modem to a cable wall outlet or a line splitter.
- Make sure that the cable connection is hand-tightened to secure the connection (a coax cable has been provided in the package).
STEP 3
Connect the Power Adapter to the cable modem.
- Plug in the modem Power Adapter to the power port on the Cable Modem and plug the other end of the power adapter into an electrical outlet.
- Wait until the four LED lights are SOLID GREEN or BLUE. This may take up to 2 – 3 minutes.
If not, please check the Cable connection. If you believe that the coax cable connections are tightly connected, then please call your Cable Internet Service Provider. It is possible that your Cable Internet service has not been activated.
STEP 4
Connecting the modem to your computer.
- Turn off the computer to which you intend to connect the cable modem.
- Use the Ethernet cable provided in the package to connect to the 2.5 Gig E port (orange in color) on the rear panel of the CODA56 cable modem and connect the other end to an Ethernet port on your computer.
- Turn on your computer.
NOTE: Even though an Internet connection is established, you will need to activate your modem on your Internet service with your Cable Internet provider. See Step 5 below.
STEP 5
Activate Your Modem
- Once your modem connection is established, many larger Internet Service Providers such as Comcast XFINITY have automatic activation via a downloadable App. Activation is finished when your four LEDs are solid GREEN
If you do not have automatic activation, call your Cable Internet Service Provider to manually activate your Hitron modem on their network.

Your cable Internet provider’s contact information my change. You can find the current contact information in your monthly Internet service billing statement.
STEP 1
Reboot your cable modem by unplugging the power cable from the cable modem and plugging it back in.
Note: Do not disconnect your cable modem from the Coax wall outlet.
When the start-up procedure is complete, the Power LED will turn SOLID GREEN. This may take a few minutes to stop blinking and light SOLID GREEN.
STEP 2
Plug an Ethernet cable to connect the Ethernet port on your cable modem to the WAN or Internet port on your router.
STEP 3
Power on the router.
Wait until the router is ready (check your instruction manual to determine when it’s ready).
STEP 4
Connect a computer to the router over a WiFi connection or with an Ethernet cable to a LAN port on the router.

How do I activate Internet service on my Hitron CODA56 cable modem?
- To activate your Internet service:

- You may be asked to provide your account information and your cable modem’s model number, serial number, and MAC address. The serial number and MAC address are on the product label on the rear panel of your cable modem.
- Your cable Internet provider will need to confirm that your cable modem is active.
- If you do not get an Internet connection with your cable modem, ask your cable Internet provider to verify if your cable modem is online.
- If the cable modem is not visible to your Internet provider, your cable Internet provider can give you instructions to verify why the cable modem does not connect with your high-speed Internet service.
- If the cable modem is visible to your cable Internet provider, reboot your cable modem and check your online status again.
What lights should be on my CODA56 cable modem?
- Power LED is Green and Steady
- LAN LED is Green and Steady
- Online LED is Green and Steady
- Upstream LED is either Green or Blue and Steady
- Downstream LED is either Green or Blue and Steady
I have No Internet Connection
- Make sure that you have activated your Internet Service with your Internet Service Provider. To activate your Internet service, visit your cable Internet provider’s website and follow the instructions to activate your Internet service.
- Check that the coaxial cable connections are secure at the modem and at the coax outlet.
- Check the Ethernet connections are secure at the modem and at the computers’ Ethernet port.
- Power off your modem for at least 10 seconds and then power it back on.
- Restart your computer or router connected to the cable modem. This ensures that they receive a correct IP address from the modem.
Troubleshooting - POWER LED is Off
- Press the POWER button once to see if the LED is on and if the equipment turns on.
- Make sure that the power adapter is securely connected to your modem and securely connected to a working electrical outlet.
- Check that the electrical outlet is working. Is the outlet controlled by a light switch?
- Check that you are using the power adapter that HITRON supplied for this product.
- If the problem remains, it could be an issue with the power adaptor. br> Note: Only use a supplied HITRON power adapter to avoid any potential equipment damages. If the problem persists, contact technical support for help at https://us.hitrontech.com/support.
Troubleshooting - LAN LED is Off
- Check that the power to the modem is ON and that both ends of the Ethernet cable are securely connected to the modem and computer.
- Check that you are using the Ethernet cable that HITRON supplied for this product.
- If the problem remains, it could be that the Ethernet cable is damaged.
Troubleshooting - Downstream LED is Off or Blinking
- Check that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the modem.
- If the problem remains, please contact your Internet Service Provider.
Troubleshooting - Upstream LED is Off or Blinking
- Check that the Ethernet cable is securely connected to the modem.
- If the problem remains, please contact your Internet Service Provider.
Troubleshooting - Online LED Off
- Make sure that you have activated your Internet Service with your Internet Service Provider.
- Check that the coaxial cable connections are secure at the modem and at the coax outlet.
- Check the Ethernet connections are secure at the modem and at the computers’ Ethernet port.
- Power off your modem for at least 10 seconds and then power it back on.
- Restart your computer or router connected to the cable modem. This ensures that they receive a correct IP address from the modem.
- Check your modem by plugging it in to a different coax outlet.
- Check if you have a splitter (a splitter is a small device that has a single coax cable on one side and 2 coax cables on the other side.) between your cable modem and the coax outlet. Remove the splitter and connect the cable modem directly to the coax outlet. If bypassing the splitter fixes the problem, you should probably get a new/better splitter that supports frequencies up to 1000 MHz.
- If the problem remains, please contact your Internet Service Provider.
How do I restart my CODA56 cable modem?
- Insert the end of a paper clip or other small object with a narrow tip into the Reset opening on the back of your CODA56 modem.
- Press and hold the Reset button for three or four seconds only to reset the CODA56. The CODA56 resets, using your existing settings.
How do I Factory Reset my CODA56 cable modem?
- Insert the end of a paper clip or other small object with a narrow tip into the Reset opening of the back of your CODA56 modem.
- Press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds or more to restore* the CODA56 back to its factory default settings.
- *NOTE: If you restore the CODA56, any modified settings cannot be recovered.
How do I test my modem speed?
- Open a web browser.
- Type in the URL www.speedtest.net.
- Click on the “GO” icon in the middle of the page. The speed test will first test your download speed, then it will test your upload speed.
What if I'm told that my CODA56 cable modem isn't approved for my cable Internet service?
