IPv4 Settings Firewall Level

Use this screen to turn IPv4 firewall settings on or off and to allow or permit certain applications and protocols. You can select the level of firewall protection from pre-defined options, or create a custom protection profile.

Select the level of firewall protection that you want to apply to your LAN. The ARIA3411 has 4 firewall levels for IPv4 traffic: Maximum, Typical, Minimum and Custom.  Details about the protection level display beneath the buttons.

Click Firewall > IPv4 Settings. The following screen displays.

 

The following table describes the labels in this screen.

Firewall Level
Select the level of firewall protection that you want to apply to your LAN. Details about the protection level display beneath the buttons.

DISABLED – No application or traffic is blocked (not recommended).

MAXIMUM - From LAN to WAN, all applications including voice applications (e.g. Skype) and P2P applications are blocked. This setting enables Internet surfing, e-mail services, VPN services, DNS services and iTunes services.

TYPICAL - From LAN to WAN, P2P applications and ping to the gateway are blocked, but all traffic is allowed.

MINIMUM - No application or traffic is blocked from LAN to WAN. This is the standard configuration.

Custom IPv4 Firewall Settings

To customize the IPv4 firewall settings, select Custom in the Firewall Level field, additional fields display that allow you to toggle specific features on or off

Click Firewall > IPv4 Settings > Custom. The following screen displays.

The following table describes the labels in this screen.

Firewall
HTTP
ICMP
P2P
Ident
Select ON to enable custom firewall security protection, or select OFF to disable it.

Note: When the custom Firewall is enabled, the following applications/ protocols will be blocked: HTTP, ICMP, P2P, Ident.

Use this field to Allow or Deny HyperText Transfer Protocol traffic.
Use this field to Allow or Deny Internet Control Message Protocol traffic.
Use this field to Allow or Deny peer-to-peer traffic (such as BitTorrent).
Use this field to Allow or Deny Identification protocol traffic. The Identification protocol allows remote hosts to request identifying information about users of a device.
